D E Thai Kitchen opened their doors, to the Las Vegas public, almost a year ago. Owners, Jompon and Premwadee Chotikamars, are a passionate husband and wife team when it comes to authentic Thai dishes. Jompson manages the back of the house as Premwadee runs the front of the house with the customers.
Jompon was raised in Bangkok, Thailand. “I originally started cooking as a little boy. When I was twelve I moved to the northern region. I was surprised at how different the food and spices where,” he says. His love of flavor and food has always been with him. A few years back he created a Facebook page featuring food he was cooking for friends and family. It was a hit. His wife urged him that it was time for a business to be opened. “My wife continued to push me. One night, as I was coming home from work, I saw this location available. It was the sign I needed,” says Jompon.
When you enter D E Thai Kitchen you’ll notice that it doesn’t have the traditional Thai restaurant feel but more of a clean hipster vibe. Kind of like the owners themselves. When it comes to the food, it’s everything you’d expect of Thai food and more. The food is traditional authentic Thai food that stays true to all the different regions of Thailand. “We use authentic spices to make the food,” states Jompon. Their menu is filled with dishes that are familiar but some are new to the public. “We listen to people. In the past we would get a lot of requests for dishes we didn’t have but now we do. What makes us different is that we have dishes that other restaurants just don’t offer,” says Jompon. Their most popular dish is the boat noodle soup. His goal is to keep the original recipes, from Thailand, and not alter them.
A fun interesting fact is the D and E, of their Las Vegas restaurant name, are the first initials of their children. Family is important to them and they have worked hard to create a place that is family friendly and cool. D E Thai Kitchen may be the new kid on the block but you’d never guess that by the amount of customers that come in and out of their doors each day and by the incredible flavors that are served with each dish. D E Thai Kitchen is a taste bud experience that you should try at least once. Don’t just take The City’s Best word for it, go on down there and experience a tasty bit for yourself.
